KazNU athletes are among the best at the Universiade

Athletes of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University became the best at the XIII Summer Universiade in Turkestan.

The girls took first place in the team table tennis competition. The team consisted of first–year students of the Faculty of Medicine Angelina Romanovskaya and Anel Bakhyt, as well as Aruzhan Bekish, a second-year student at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management. The team was trained by the coaches of the KazNU sports complex: Timur Beisaliev, Kuanysh Zharkeshev and Svetlana Kiriyenko.

University students beat their rivals in the individual table tennis championship. So, in the individual competition among girls, Anel Bakhyt took the first place, Angelina Romanovskaya won the second place, Aruzhan Bekish – the third place. Kharki Iskender took the first place among the young men, Yerasyl Gaynedenov and Nurtugan Sagintai took the fifth place.

KazNU athletes also entered the top three, winning first places in taekwondo competitions. In the weight of 67 kg, the first place was won by a 3rd-year student of the Faculty of International Relations, Farida Baybatyrova. Nargiza Saken, a 1st year student of the Faculty of Philology, took second place in the 46 kg weight category. The honorable third place was taken by Malika Iminzhanova, a 4th–year athlete of the Journalism Faculty in the 53 kg weight category, as well as students Aikerim Zhenis (49 kg weight category) and Kuanysh Abdirasilov (68 kg weight category). In addition, the KazNU taekwondo team took the second place among the girls.

KazNU's team of athletes also won a bronze medal in togyzkumalak competitions. The team consists of students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics Zukhra Saydulla, Rayhan Kairat, as well as students of the Faculty of Physics and Technology Madina Tanatarova and Akerke Shamsharkhan. The women's national team was coached by Ainur Moldakhmetova.

The XIII Summer Student Universiade in Turkestan started on May 10 and will last until June 14. More than 4,000 students from 76 universities are taking part in the large-scale sports event.
