«New Sources of National History»: A Leadership Lecture by Academician M.K. Koigeldiev

On April 25, 2025, a historically meaningful and educational meeting took place at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was organized at the initiative of the Republican Research Center for the Study of Traditional Civilizations of Central Asia, operating within the university, and featured a substantial and insightful lecture by the prominent historian, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Mambet Kulzhabayuly Koigeldiev.
The event was opened with a welcoming speech by Academician of the NAS RK, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor B.B. Karibaev, who introduced the participants and highlighted the academic significance of the meeting. The lecture was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor D.S. Baigunakov; Professors of the Department of History of Kazakhstan F.A. Kozybakova, G.B. Khabizhanova, S.K. Uderbayeva, and N.A. Tasilova; senior lecturers A.O. Koshymova and G.I. Mensitova; as well as students, master’s and doctoral students of the university.
During the meeting, Academician Mambet Koigeldiev delivered a leadership lecture titled “New Sources of National History.” He introduced a groundbreaking 12-volume scholarly collection entitled “The Alash Orda Case. 1920–1940. Documents and Materials,” which is dedicated to the fate of the Alash movement leaders and is expected to have a significant impact on the historical consciousness of the nation. The academician elaborated on the thematic and structural features of the collection.
According to Professor Koigeldiev, this multi-volume edition includes more than three thousand previously unpublished historical documents and rare photographs. As the head of the working group, he noted that 35 experts — historians, archivists, and archaeographers — contributed to the preparation of the collection, and he emphasized that it was the result of a collective effort. In addition, he provided a detailed analysis of the issues covered in each volume and gave clear and insightful answers to the questions raised by participants.
At the end of the meeting, both the organizers and attendees expressed their sincere gratitude to Academician Mambet Kulzhabaiuly and stressed the importance of such meaningful and educational meetings for the younger generation.
