From May 28 to May 30, 2025, the 4th International Symposium on Emerging Materials and Devices (ISEMD 2025) is being held at the Renewable Energy Laboratory of the National Laboratory Astana, Nazarbayev University. This prestigious international scientific event is organized under the chairmanship of Professor Nurkhat Nurazhe (NU SEDS) and aims to highlight the latest advances in the field of emerging functional materials and devices applied in energy, environmental science, medicine, and high-tech manufacturing.

The Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is represented at the symposium by a broad delegation of leading scientists, professors, and young researchers. Faculty members are delivering both oral presentations and poster sessions on cutting-edge topics — from the development of promising nanostructured coatings to next-generation sensor and photonic devices.

Special attention at the symposium is given to scientific research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular:

  • SDG 7 — Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all,

  • SDG 9 — Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.

Participation in ISEMD 2025 allows researchers of the Faculty of Physics and Technology to strengthen scientific collaborations with international partners, showcase the results of their fundamental and applied research, and outline plans for joint projects within Horizon Europe, MSCA, and other international initiatives. Of particular interest are the sessions focused on the commercialization of scientific developments and technology transfer, which align with the university’s development strategy and the goal of integrating science, education, and industry.

The presentations delivered by faculty scientists have received positive feedback from the scientific community, and the high level of research output reinforces KazNU’s status as one of the leading research universities in Central Asia.
