International Conference InterPore 2025

From May 18 to 22, 2025, Junior Research Fellow Zhansaya Aitkhozha presented the results of her research at the InterPore 2025 International Conference on Porous Media, held in Albuquerque, USA.
As part of the conference, she presented a poster titled:
"Enhanced hydrocarbon removal from porous media: pore-scale investigation using polymer and alcohol solutions",
co-authored with B. Bekbau, D. Turalina, and S. Omirbekov. The study focuses on the remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils using polymer and alcohol-based solutions—an innovative approach combining physicochemical techniques and pore-scale analysis enhanced with AI-assisted image processing.
This research contributes directly to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation,
- SDG 13 – Climate Action,
- SDG 15 – Life on Land,
and supports SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through international scientific collaboration.
Over the five days, Zhansaya participated in lectures, training courses, oral and poster sessions, and held discussions with researchers from around the world. A particularly valuable aspect of the event was the opportunity to build international academic connections and receive expert feedback on her work.
Participation in InterPore 2025 marked an important step in advancing environmentally friendly soil remediation technologies and preparing young researchers to address global scientific challenges.
Participation in the conference and the research work were funded by the grant project AP23483887 of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan: " Development and Application of a New Simulator for Investigating the Physico-Chemical Remediation of Contaminated Aquifers."
