Lecturers of the Department of Chinese Studies took part in a scientific event dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Abai at the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan

On May 28, 2025, the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a scholarly and educational event titled “The School of Abai and the National Intelligentsia”, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh thinker, poet, and educator Abai Kunanbayuly.

The event brought together prominent academics, scholars of Abai studies, and university lecturers from across the country. The occasion was inspired by a series of recent publications on Abai studies in Kazakh and Persian by Professor Islam Zhemeney, Doctor of Philological Sciences.

The opening remarks were delivered by Asylbek Kazyghululy Kuryshbayev, President of the National Academy of Sciences, who emphasized the continuing relevance of Abai’s legacy in modern society. The closing speech was given by Academician Askar Serkululy Zhumadilayev, who encouraged further in-depth study of Abai’s heritage.

As part of the program, Nurkhalyk Abdyrakyn, senior lecturer at the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU, presented a talk titled “Abai and Eastern Worldview”, highlighting the influence of Eastern philosophy on Abai’s intellectual formation. He described Abai as a global thinker and visionary educator devoted to his people.
