“Clean Water – Clean Future”: Educational Excursion within the Framework of World Environment Day
Every year on June 5, World Environment Day is celebrated across the globe. This day serves as an important tool for raising public awareness about environmental protection and sustainable development. Within this context, students from the “Ecology” and “Environmental Engineering” educational programs, under the guidance of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development lecturers L.S. Kurbanova and B.Kh. Tusupova, participated in an educational excursion to the city’s wastewater treatment facility — the Aeration Station.
The purpose of the excursion was to help students understand the importance of efficient water resource use, familiarize them with wastewater treatment technologies, and combine theoretical ecological knowledge with real-world practice.
The Aeration Station is a critical facility that ensures the city’s environmental safety. Domestic and industrial wastewater passes through several treatment stages here. Students learned about key stages such as mechanical and biological treatment. They also explored modern laboratories and technological equipment used to assess water quality and received valuable insights from the facility’s specialists.
The station staff provided detailed information about advanced equipment, technologies, and laboratory methods used to monitor treatment quality. They shared specific data on the importance of such facilities in protecting water resources and contributing to environmental safety.
The excursion left a strong impression on the students. They gained a deeper understanding of the significance of their future profession and strengthened their sense of responsibility for protecting the environment.
Such initiatives play an important role in developing environmental awareness and providing professional orientation. This educational visit, held in honor of World Environment Day on June 5, boosted students’ interest in ecology and marked a key step in shaping informed, knowledgeable, and proactive environmental professionals.
