Round table: «Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on international treaties: development and practice of application»

    On May 31, 2025, at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Department of International Law organized a round table on the topic: «Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on international treaties: development and practice of application», dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan» (dated May 30, 2005).

    The purpose of the event, held within the framework of SDG 16 «Peace, justice and effective institutions», was to discuss the development of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on international treaties, its compliance with international standards, as well as an analysis of the practice of applying the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On international treaties» over 20 years since its adoption.

     The round table was moderated by PhD in Law Baimagambetova Z.M.

     Welcoming remarks were made by the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations - PhD in Law, Associate Professor Sairambaeva Zh.T.; Head of the Department of International Law - PhD in Law, Associate Professor Altaeva K.Zh.

     The round table discussed the following issues:

• «The Republic of Kazakhstan in the system of international law: the role and importance of international treaties» - expert, invited guest - PhD Erik Bauyrzhanovich Akhmetov, Inspector of the Representative Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Presidential Administration);

• «Problems of implementing the UN Convention against Corruption in the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan» - speaker - PhD in Law, Associate Professor of the Department of International Law Samaldykov M.K.;

• «Legal expertise at the stage of concluding international treaties and their implementation in national legislation» - speaker, PhD in Law Nysanbekova L.B., senior lecturer Zhunisov Zh.S.;

• «On the application of norms of international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan» - speaker, PhD in Law Baitukaeva D.U.;

• «International treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan and mechanisms of mutual legal assistance within the CIS in the field of returning illegally withdrawn assets: analysis and proposals» - speaker, graduate student S. Tursunbekov;

• «The role of international treaties in the legal regulation of waste management in the Republic of Kazakhstan» - speaker, graduate student Toktarbekova M.;

• «The role of international treaties in the legal regulation of waste management in the Republic of Kazakhstan: the role of international treaties in the legal regulation of waste management in the Republic of Kazakhstan» - speaker, graduate student Wang Xi.

     Following the results of the round table:

• the importance of professional training of international lawyers with deep knowledge of contract law was emphasized;

• the participants noted the need for regular monitoring of the fulfillment of international obligations by the Republic of Kazakhstan;

• The round table became an important platform for the exchange of experience and opinions on issues of international contract law and strengthening of legal institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
