KazNU strengthens cooperation with Beijing University

As part of the development of strategic partnership with the People's Republic of China, Yerkin Duisenov, Deputy Chairman of the Board and First Vice-Rector of Al–Farabi Kazakh National University, met with a delegation from the Beijing University at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture.

Welcoming the representatives of the Beijing University, the leadership of KazNU expressed appreciation for their interest in working together. The First Vice-rector noted that KazNU is the country's leading research university and is among the TOP 200 world universities according to the QS WUR 2025 rating. The University has 16 faculties, 8 research institutes, 140 laboratories and 29 research centers.

KazNU is actively developing cooperation with Chinese universities, maintaining partnerships with 65 educational institutions and organizations, including Peking University, Tsinghua University and other well-known universities. Active scientific and academic activities are carried out within the framework of existing agreements. In the 2024-25 academic year, teachers, doctoral students and undergraduates of KazNU completed internships at Chinese universities. Currently, 1 440 students from China are studying at KazNU.

An important area of cooperation is the development of research in the field of medicine. In particular, in 2019, the KazNU established a Research Center for Medicinal Plants, on the basis of which low-tonnage production of innovative products from plant raw materials was launched in 2022. The center is engaged in the development of a full cycle of production of medicinal plants, from cultivation to product launch on the market.

The Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of KazNU, which includes the Higher School of Public Health, the Higher School of Medicine and the scientific Center "Innovative Healthcare", is one of the leading medical faculties in the country. The faculty has its own clinical base, educates more than 2 000 students, including 1 000 foreigners from 22 countries, and actively implements research projects, including under the Erasmus+ program.

In turn, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhang Qiang and Director of the International Research Center for Drug Administration at Peking University Shi Luwen expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation and voiced a number of proposals for joint work.

During the talks, the sides exchanged views, discussed the development of joint educational programs in traditional Chinese medicine, the integration of Chinese and Western medicine, the creation of a joint research center, and others.

In conclusion, the delegation got acquainted with the university campus.
