This academic year  we were happy to have a unique group of  first-year students from China Amangeldi Aknar and Inzhu Shalkaar, ethnic Kazakhs, and Xu Yan, Li Lipeng and Zhang Qianshui, ethnic Chinese students who chose KazNU to study Oriental Studies and Translation.

Amangeldi Aknar: «KazNU is the bridge to my heritage». For Aknar, choosing KazNU was not only about academics but also about rediscovering his roots. "Growing up in China, I always knew I was Kazakh, but I didn’t fully understand what it meant. My family kept our traditions alive, but being surrounded by a different culture, I felt something was missing."

Aknar shares that studying Translation at KazNU has been an enriching experience. "The faculty is incredible. We’re delving into Central Asian history, languages, and politics. I’m learning so much about the role Kazakhstan has played in the development of Eastern civilizations.

Shalkar Inzhu: «Translation is more than words—it’s about understanding». For Inzhu, studying Oriental Studies at KazNU is a natural extension of her passion for languages and history. "Growing up bilingual, I was fascinated by how languages connect people. My parents spoke Kazakh, we studied Mandarin in school, and now I’m perfecting my English and Russian at KazNU”

Inzhu also speaks about the friendships she’s formed. "I’ve met students from so many countries here. The mix of backgrounds is inspiring. It’s amazing to see how people from different cultures come together to learn and grow at KazNU."

Xu Yan: «KazNU is my gateway to Central Asia». Xu Yan, an ethnic Chinese student, shares her perspective on why she chose KazNU. "Central Asia has always fascinated me. It’s a region rich in history, culture, and opportunity. When asked about her experience as an international student, Xu Yan says, "KazNU feels like home. The campus is beautiful, the professors are supportive, and the students are incredibly kind. I was worried about feeling out of place, but instead, I’ve found a community that values diversity”.

Li Lipeng chose to study Translation at KazNU because of its strong academic reputation. He says :"KazNU is known for its excellence in language studies. We’re learning ancient texts and using the latest translation software. It’s a perfect balance. I feel like I’m preparing for a career in a rapidly changing world while staying connected to timeless values."

Zhang Qianshui:. "I wanted to challenge myself by studying abroad, and Kazakhstan seemed like the perfect choice. It’s a country with a unique blend of cultures and a growing role on the global stage."

Studying Translation, Zhang feels inspired by the depth of knowledge she’s gaining. "The professors are passionate and knowledgeable. They’re not just teaching us facts—they’re showing us how to think critically about the world."

We are really happy   that  for Aknar, Inzhu, Xu Yan, Li Lipeng, and Zhang Qianshui Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is more than an academic institution. It’s a place where cultures meet, ideas flourish, and futures are shaped. KazNU embodies the spirit of unity, excellence, and opportunity, making it a destination for students from every corner of the world.
