From June 2 to June 13, 2025, the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University successfully held a major and important event — the defense of diploma projects.
The Chair of the State Attestation Commission was Guldanа Meirambek, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of "Geodesy and Geodesy" at Satbayev University (Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev).
In addition, the commission included experienced and respected faculty members: Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Ernaz Sovetovich Oryngozhin; PhD holders and acting associate professors Edil Sautovich Sarybaev and Olzhas Seitbotanovich Kurmanbaev; as well as Senior Lecturer Zhanat Nurkuatovna Alisheva.
A total of 86 students took part in the defense across three educational programs:
6В07301 – "Geodesy and Cartography" – 33 students
6В07302 – "Geoinformatics" – 40 students
6В05206 – "Natural and Technogenic Risks" – 13 students
The graduates successfully presented concrete data and projects collected during their industrial internships. The commission members asked in-depth questions related to real-world production and scientific issues, thoroughly evaluating the students’ level of professional preparation. During the defense, students demonstrated their ability to apply acquired knowledge in practice, showcased professional competence, and expressed a genuine interest in their chosen field.
Among the projects that stood out during the defense were:
"Analysis of the dynamics of changes in agricultural lands in the Zhambyl region based on remote sensing data ", " Analysis of the ratio of built-up and green areas in Almaty using the tools of geoinformation systems ", " Social and environmental risks of the transport flow of the city of Almaty "
These diploma projects addressed relevant issues aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
All works were presented at a high level using multimedia technologies and were distinguished by comprehensive analysis and a creative approach.
The final results are also encouraging: out of 86 graduates, 73 defended their theses with the grade "excellent." This is a result not only of the students' hard work but also of the significant contributions of their academic advisors.
We congratulate all graduates of our department on being awarded the qualifications of "Bachelor of Engineering and Technology" and "Bachelor of Natural Sciences"!
We believe that in their future professional careers, they will reach new heights, successfully implement their projects, and make a meaningful contribution to the development of the country's infrastructure.
We wish our graduates success, a bright future, and professional achievements!
