Round table in memory of a scientist and mentor: on the 80th anniversary of the birth of Professor Birlikbay Eszhanov

In honor of the 80th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist, candidate of biological sciences, professor of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources Birlikbay Yeszhanovich Yeszhanov, a memorial round table was held at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.

Birlikbay Yeszhanovich was a famous specialist in the field of zoology and biodiversity conservation, who devoted his life to science, pedagogy, and training of young specialists. His scientific and teaching activities spanned almost half a century, 48 years. During this time, he made a significant contribution to the development of domestic biological science and the system of higher education.

The round table was attended by the dean of the faculty, doctors and candidates of sciences, teachers of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources, representatives of the Institute of Zoology, the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan, as well as relatives and friends of the scientist. The participants of the event shared their memories, noted the enormous scientific and pedagogical role of Professor Eszhanov, emphasized his high personal qualities, humanity, attention to students, and colleagues.

Birlikbay Eszhanovich worked in different years as a teacher at the Ural Pedagogical Institute, a research fellow at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, and also as an associate professor at the Department of Zoology and Ichthyology of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. He was the author of more than 400 scientific and educational-methodical works, including fundamental textbooks and monographs, terminological dictionaries, encyclopedic articles and workshops published in Kazakh, Russian, and English.

For his fruitful contribution to science and education, Professor Eszhanov was awarded the bronze and silver medals named after A. Baitursynov, the “Ы. Altynsarin", and the jubilee medal for the 80th anniversary of KazNU, he was also awarded the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Fisheries". In 2025, he was awarded the academic title of professor.

Birlikbay Yeszhanovich worked until the end of his life within the walls of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi, where he left a bright mark as a teacher, scientist, mentor, and a man of high culture. His rich scientific heritage and life path will serve as an example for future generations of researchers and teachers.

The bright memory of the scientist, mentor, and man will remain in the hearts of all who had the honor to know and work with him.
