Future Geographers of KazNU Explore the Natural and Socio-Ecological Diversity of Kazakhstan

18 june, 2025

In June 2025, second-year students of the academic program 6B05205 – Geography from the Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University participated in a comprehensive zonal field practice. The route of the practice covered a wide geographic spectrum: Almaty – Balkhash – Karaganda – Bayanaul National Nature Park – Burabay National Nature Park – Astana – Almaty.

The main objective of the practice was to help students understand the complexity of natural landscapes and the interconnection between environment and society. Throughout the field journey, students observed and documented relief forms, hydrological features, soil characteristics, vegetation types, and local climate conditions. They also assessed anthropogenic impacts on natural systems.

In Bayanaul and Burabay national parks, students conducted detailed landscape profiling, phenological observations, and soil analysis. In Astana, the focus was on urban geography, environmental conditions, green zoning, and sustainable urban development.

All fieldwork was documented through field journals, maps, profiles, and diagrams. Upon returning, students prepared and defended analytical reports and presentations summarizing their results.
