23 june, 2025

As part of the “Protect the Environment” project, second-year students of the “Ecology” educational program at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Arina Fadeeva and Anastasia Khristich, gave a lecture for members of the “Jas Volunteers” youth movement. Future ecologists studying at the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development shared their experience and spoke about the importance of the environmental profession in today's world.

During the meeting, the students discussed current environmental issues with the participants and emphasized how vital it is for each individual to contribute to environmental protection. Key topics included waste recycling, proper sorting of recyclable materials, and conscious consumption. According to the students, ecological awareness begins with such small but meaningful steps.

Arina and Anastasia also introduced the many opportunities available at KazNU: modern laboratories at the faculty, the active work of the EcoHub, participation in national and international environmental projects, and academic mobility programs that allow students to study abroad. They highlighted the strengths of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development, where students receive not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills in solving real environmental challenges.

The lecture was attended by school students already engaged in volunteer activities. The student speakers encouraged them to deepen their understanding of ecological science and environmental legislation to be more effective and helpful to society. They also invited those interested in making a real impact on the planet to consider studying ecology and joining the community of environmentally conscious professionals.
