Visit of the General Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Services Kazakhstan to KazNU: Open Lecture for Summer School Participants and Contribution to Sustainable Development (SDG 4 and SDG 7)

18 june, 2025

As part of the 7th TotalEnergies Summer School for Sustainable Development (TESS) held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the participation of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, a significant meeting took place between students and Thierry Plaisant, General Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Services Kazakhstan.

The guest delivered an introductory lecture, in which he spoke about TotalEnergies' mission and strategic priorities both globally and within Kazakhstan. Students learned about the company’s key activities, including projects in solar and wind energy, energy transition, and broader sustainability efforts.

Particular interest was shown in real-life examples of projects currently being implemented in Kazakhstan, especially in southern regions, as well as the company’s plans to expand its investment footprint in the country. The discussion also focused on technological innovation, energy efficiency, and youth involvement in the green economy.

Thierry Plaisant’s presentation featured an open dialogue with students, who asked questions about sustainable development mechanisms and international environmental initiatives.

The visit and lecture stood as a vivid example of the practical integration of business, education, and sustainable development.

In the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the event contributed to:

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: through engaging students with international experts and providing relevant insights into sustainable energy topics;

  • SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: by promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible solutions.

The Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Thierry Plaisant for his valuable contribution to the educational process and looks forward to further collaboration with TotalEnergies in joint scientific and educational initiatives.
