Faculty Members of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi KazNU Undergo Industrial Internship at JSC “Volkovgeology”: Contribution to Human Capital Development and SDG Implementation (SDG 4 and SDG 9)

1 july, 2025

In June 2025, Gozal Saidullaeva and Saule Zhaugasheva, faculty members of the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, are undergoing an industrial internship at the “Central Experimental and Methodological Expedition” branch of JSC “Volkovgeology”, a subsidiary of NAC “Kazatomprom”, Kazakhstan’s leading state-owned company in nuclear energy and technology.

The internship is organized within the framework of professional development programs for academic staff and aims to enhance their practical competencies, familiarize them with modern exploration and monitoring technologies for uranium deposits, radiation control methods, and nuclear safety systems.

This cooperation is particularly important in the context of training specialists in nuclear physics, as graduates of KazNU’s Master’s program in Nuclear Physics (Class of 2025) are currently employed at the same enterprise.

The combination of faculty internships and alumni employment at a key company in the nuclear sector contributes to:

  • strengthening the link between academic education and the real economy;

  • improving the quality of training by integrating applied knowledge and modern technologies into the learning process;

  • establishing a foundation for joint scientific and industrial projects.

This initiative also aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: through curriculum enhancement based on practical competencies, professional development of teaching staff, and close cooperation with employers;

  • SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: by fostering university-industry partnerships and promoting innovations in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi KazNU expresses sincere gratitude to the management of JSC “Volkovgeology” and NAC “Kazatomprom” for their support in organizing the internship and contributing to the advancement of applied education and human capital in the strategically vital field of nuclear energy.
