Participation of KazNU's Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in the IEEE IMS Summer School 2025

On June 16, 2025, the IEEE IMS Summer School 2025 took place at the Telecommunications Research Institute of ISCTE University in Lisbon, Portugal, under the theme "Smart Systems for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)", focusing on digital solutions for active aging and remote healthcare.

Representing Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the following speakers delivered presentations:

  • Madina Mansurova, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, presented on the role of AI and big data analytics in transforming healthcare and preparing human capital for the digital economy;

  • Talshyn Sarsembayeva, Deputy Head for Research and Innovation, shared KazNU’s practices in implementing interdisciplinary educational programs and integrating digital solutions into the learning process.

The delegation also included five master's students from the Business Analytics and Big Data educational program, as well as junior research staff actively engaged in the discussion of projects and solutions in the field of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL).

The event gathered participants from universities and research institutes across Europe and Central Asia. The discussions focused on:

  • demographic aging and healthcare system challenges;

  • digital and sensor technologies for monitoring health and living environments;

  • rehabilitation using smart crutches and walkers, virtual and mixed reality, wearable devices, infrared thermography, and the use of AI and IoT in medicine.

Participation in the international summer school enabled the department to present KazNU’s experience in digital technologies and education, establish academic collaboration with European peers, and involve students in cutting-edge scientific discussions.
