FRENCH MASTER CLASS OF ARCHAEOLOGY FOR CENTRAL ASIAN YOUNG RESEARCHERS

Information Letter

The Archaeozoological Center for the study of Central Asia “MIL ZooStan” from the French National Center for Scientific Research and Kazakh National University, with the active support of the French Embassies in Kazakhstan, Kirghizistan, Ouzbekistan and Tadjikistan, and the Embassy pf Kazakhstan in France, organize with our partners a Summer class in France for young Central Asian Scientist. Our Master Class will specifically focu this year on the Bioarchaeological science in Archaeological context. It will be held at the excavation site of the archaeological site of Chez Pinaud at Jonzac, Charente Maritime, France.

📌 WHAT TO EXPECT: Lectures (Paleogenetic, PaleoProteomic, Zooarchaeolgy and Archaeozoology, Statistic apply to lithic technology, Spatial analysis)  Workshops Practicals  Excursions to archaeological sites  Participation in the international archaeological excavation at Chez Pinaud - Jonzac site (head of the excavation – Dr. W. Rendu, Pr K. Kolobova, Dr. S Shnaider, Pr T Chargynov)

📆 DATES: September 8 – 16, 2025 After the official field school period, young researchers may, upon agreement with the expedition leaders, continue to participate in the excavations at Jonzac. The field school is aimed at Master's students, PhD candidates, and specialists in the following fields:  Zooarchaeology .Archaeology  Anthropology

WORKING LANGUAGES: English and Russian Transportation, accommodation, and meals during the field school will be covered by the organizers. Please note: visa fees and incidental expenses in France (pocket money, etc.) are not covered. Participants must arrange for their own medical insurance and provide a medical certificate confirming the absence of chronic conditions incompatible with field conditions. For accommodation in the stationary field camp, participants are advised to bring a sleeping bag and suitable field clothing.
