The faculty is involved in aerial visual monitoring of the hydrological condition and development dynamics of moraine and glacial lakes within the Ile Alatau mountain range, including the Talgar, Ulken Almaty and Aksai River basin. The primary aim of the study is to identify potential hazards associated with glacial and moraine lakes located in areas vulnerable to mudflow activity.

This research is being conducted as part of the scientific projects AP27511595 titled “Development of a Regional Geoinformation System for Monitoring and Assessing the Outburst Hazard of Moraine-Glacial Lakes in the Eastern Part of the Ile Alatau” and BR28713751 “Development of a complex risk management system for the most hazardous moraine lakes in the Ile and Kungey Alatau ranges river basins”. The project is aimed at the comprehensive study of factors contributing to the development of hazardous hydrological phenomena in mountainous regions.
