Meeting of the Department Leadership with First-Year Students of the Educational Program “Materials Science and Technology of New Materials” within the Orientation Week. SDG 4.

At the Department of Solid State Physics and Technology of New Materials, Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a meeting was held between the curators, the Deputy Heads of the Department for Academic Affairs, and the Deputy Head for Research with first-year students of the Russian and Kazakh tracks of the educational program “Materials Science and Technology of New Materials.”

Introduction to the Department and the Academic Process

During the meeting, students were introduced to the structure of the department, areas of academic and research activities, as well as opportunities to participate in research projects and grant programs.

First-year students were also briefed on the rules of residence in the dormitory and the operation of the Univer system, which is used for academic registration, performance monitoring, and access to educational resources. In addition, the Code of Honor of the KazNU Student was presented, fostering academic culture, mutual respect, and responsibility.

Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Special attention was given to the department’s contribution to the SDGs:

• SDG 4 (Quality Education): ensuring a high level of specialist training and the development of a modern educational environment.

Outcomes of the Meeting

The event was held in the format of an open dialogue: students asked questions about the learning process, prospects for academic mobility, and participation in student research communities. The department leadership emphasized its readiness to support first-year students and to create conditions for their academic and scientific growth.
