Ceremonial Welcome Meeting for First-Year Students at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

On September 1, 2025, an academic meeting for first-year students was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. For the 2025–2026 academic year, 173 students were admitted to the faculty in such fields as Sinology, Japanology, Korean Studies, Arab Studies, Hindi, Urdu, Iranian Studies, and Turkic Studies focused on the language, history, and culture of Turkey. Welcoming speeches were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty M. Sh. Egamberdiev, Professor Nabizhan Mukhammedkhanuly, Professor B. N. Zhubatova, and Professor L. G. Yerekesheva. Their addresses emphasized the strategic importance of Oriental studies for strengthening the national interests of the Republic of Kazakhstan and outlined the features of the faculty's educational programs aimed at training specialists in Eastern languages, diplomats, and experts in international relations. It was noted that the Faculty of Oriental Studies is an important academic platform for the in-depth study of Eastern countries in their political, cultural, and civilizational dimensions. The meeting was held in a constructive and substantive atmosphere: freshmen were introduced to the academic process regulations, requirements for academic discipline, as well as the rules of residence and conduct in the student dormitory. This event became not only a symbolic beginning of their university life but also a significant step in forming the future scientific and professional community of Orientalists in Kazakhstan.
