Updated Faculty to Train AI Specialists

At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Faculty of Information Technologies has been renamed the Faculty of Information Technologies and Artificial Intelligence.

In his Address to the People of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that large-scale digitalization and the introduction of AI should become the main aspect of the country’s strategic course, since they are the drivers of the future economy. The President also emphasized the necessity of preserving human thinking and empathy despite the development of technologies and called for taking into account the risks of introducing AI into the education system, instructing that academic integrity be ensured.

The Dean of the Faculty, Timur Imankulov, noted that the main goal of the faculty is the training of global experts for the rapidly developing AI and IT sector of the national economy. This will make it possible to create a scientific and educational center that contributes to the development of the educational space both at the national level and beyond. The Faculty of Information Technologies has been updated: its name and content have been brought into accordance with the new requirements.

The Faculty of Information Technologies and Artificial Intelligence has four departments offering educational programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels:
    •    The Department of Information Systems provides training in the specialties: “Information Systems,” “Computational Linguistics,” “High-Load Information Systems with Artificial Intelligence,” and “Industrial Information Systems.”
    •    The Department of Cybersecurity and Cryptology trains specialists in the areas of “Information Security Systems,” “Cryptology,” and “Information Security Audit.”
    •    The Department of Computer Sciences offers programs in “Computer Engineering,” “Computer Sciences,” “Systems Engineering,” and “Pedagogical Informatics.”
    •    The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data trains specialists in the areas of “Automation and Control,” “Internet of Things and Big Data,” “Data Science,” “Intelligent Control Systems,” “Business Analytics and Big Data,” “Machine Learning and Data Analysis.”

The work of the updated faculty is focused on training specialists capable of solving tasks related to modern digital technologies.
