An Educational Laboratory Named After Batyrgeldy Erdenovich Shimshikov Opened at Farabi University
At the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an educational laboratory has been named after Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Batyrgeldy Erdenovich Shimshikov.
Batyrgeldy Erdenovich is a scientist who has made a significant contribution to the development of soil science and ecology in Kazakhstan. He carried out large-scale scientific projects – from studying the soils of the Volga–Ural interfluve to researching industrial pollution in the Caspian region and Western Kazakhstan. His works are of great importance for improving soil fertility, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.
The new educational laboratory will focus on soil science and ecology. Here, students and young researchers will conduct practical studies on soil fertility conservation, ecosystem protection, and the assessment of pollution impacts. In addition, the laboratory’s work is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – efficient land use, climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, environmental safety, as well as– ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Naming the laboratory in his honor is a recognition of his scientific achievements and his invaluable contribution to educating the younger generation.
