Weekend hike at the foothills of the Alatau

On the first Sunday of the new academic year, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, under the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism, organized a weekend hike to the «Gorelnik» waterfall in the Maloalmatinskoye Gorge. The event brought together more than 100 students under the guidance of the department’s lecturers — Artemyev A.M., Abdreeva Sh.T., Bayburiev R.M., Kaliyeva A.B., and Adilbay B.S.

During the hike, first-year students, representing the new generation of the department, became acquainted with the high-mountain skating rink «Medeu», the lower and upper “Gorelnik” waterfalls located in the gorge of the same name, as well as the warm springs that are especially popular among city residents.

The weekend hike to the «Gorelnik» waterfall was organized within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 3 «Good Health and Well-being,» aimed at ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for people of all ages, and Goal 15 «Life on Land,» which focuses on the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
