“Language is the Unity of the Nation”

In the “Shanyraq” hall of  I. Krylov City Library for Children and Youth, a round table discussion on the topic:  “Language is the Unity of the Nation” was held in honor of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan. The event took place within the framework of the 4th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4): "Quality Education."

The main goal of the event was to widely promote the significance and status of the state language, to increase young people's interest and motivation to learn the Kazakh language, and to foster patriotism and love for their native tongue.

The round table discussion  brought together notable guests including renowned scholar and honored public figure of Kazakhstan Asyly Osmon, President of the Foundation for Turkic Peoples' Culture Akhmet Dagduраn, teacher, scholar, and singer Semih Ipek, Head of the Department for Language Development and Onomastics of the Almaty City Administration Bakhyt Kalymbet,  the first-year students of the Faculty of Philology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, library staff, and readers.

The round table discussion  was moderated by A. Torebekova, who introduced the purpose of the event and presented the honored guests.

Public figure Asyly Osman spoke about the status of the state language, its present and future, the richness of the Kazakh language, and its usage across all areas of society. Akhmet Dagduраn, President of the Foundation for Turkic Peoples' Culture, emphasized the significance of Kazakhstan as the historical homeland among Turkic nations and the importance of the Kazakh language. Bakhyt Kalymbet highlighted that every citizen must contribute to respecting and preserving the state language. Teacher, scholar, and singer Semih Ipek performed a song in Kazakh, captivating the audience with his performance.

The youth showed particular enthusiasm during the round table: they actively participated in quizzes related to the state language and competed in Kazakh proverbs and sayings. Students also asked questions on language-related issues that concerned them and received comprehensive answers.

The important and timely topics discussed during the event left a strong impression on the students, many of whom were just beginning their university journey.
