"HISTORY OF THE TURKIC WORLD" Second Meeting

On September 10-11, 2025, the al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the second scientific meeting, "History of the Turkic World," dedicated to discussing the creation of a common academic history of Turkic states. The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by the rector of the Kazakh National University, D.Sc., academician Zhanseit Tuimebayev.
Among the guests who spoke first were: D.Sc. in economics, professor Ikram Adyrbekov, a member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States from Kazakhstan; D.Sc. in history, academician Shahin Mustafayev, president of the Turkic Academy; and Professor Dr. Yuksel Özgen, president of the Turkish Historical Society. Reports from state representatives were also presented. The meeting was attended by heads of historical and archaeological institutes, renowned scholars, and experts. Their main goal was to discuss proposals and the structural content for a future monograph on the common history of the Turkic peoples. Each participant shared their ideas, and a work plan and timeline for the two-volume scientific work were determined.
The speakers at the meeting included: D.Sc. in history, academician Azamat Ziyo, Director of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan; D.Sc. in history, Prof. Ziyabek Kabyldinov, Director of the Sh.Sh. Ualikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; D.Sc. in history, Prof. Kerim Shukurov, Director of the A. Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and Ph.D. in history, Assoc. Prof. Aida Kubatova, representing the B. Zhamgyrchinov Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Also in attendance were: D.Sc. in history, Prof. Farkhad Guliyev, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Ph.D. in history Akan Ongiruly, General Director of the A. Margulan Institute of Archaeology; D.Sc. in history, Prof. Makset Karlibayev, Director of the Karakalpak Humanitarian Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Dr. PhD Zhaksylyk Sabitov, Director of the Research Institute for the Study of the Jochi Ulus of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; D.Sc. in history, Prof. Farkhadaksudov, Director of the National Archaeological Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan; and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tashagil, Head of the Scientific and Practical Department for the Study of the Turkic World at the Turkish Historical Society.
In summing up the meeting, it was noted that it is necessary to unite the efforts of scholars and experts on the project to write a common history, which is being coordinated by the International Turkic Academy. The general plan and concept of the work were also discussed, and a decision was made to prepare a two-volume publication. It was decided that the first volume would focus on geographical, political, and ethnic history, while the second volume would cover cultural aspects.
