Journey to the Apple Orchards of the «Birch Grove»

On September 14, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, together with the lecturers of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism — A.M. Artemyev, S.T. Abdreeva, and B.S. Adilbay — organized a weekend mountain hike to the «Birch Grove» in the Zailiyskiy Alatau.

A total of 65 students, as well as representatives of the public association “Jerdin dostary” (Friends of Nature), took part in the hike. During the event, students became acquainted with several varieties of apples and pears grown in the orchards that have become a symbol of our city and took part in a tasting.

The weekend hike to the “Birch Grove” was linked to the following Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being — ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages; Goal 4: Quality Education — ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education; Goal 15: Life on Land — protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
