At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the teachers of the  Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology organized an international-level educational event on the topic:  “One language is one flag ” dedicated to the Day of Languages within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals program “Quality Education” (SDG 4), with the participation of the  1st-year students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

In Kazakhstan, the Law on Languages was adopted on September 29, 1989. Since then, September has been celebrated as the Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan. As the poet Kadir Myrzaliev wrote: “Learn all the languages, but respect your own,” Respect for the mother tongue is our civic duty. In the Republic of Kazakhstan, home to more than 130 nationalities and ethnic groups, the Kazakh language is a common value that unites everyone. Kazakh is the state language, the mirror of our identity. Therefore, this holiday is not only the Day of Languages but also a celebration that promotes the culture, literature, national traditions, and historical values of all peoples.

During the event, Kazakhstani students studying abroad joined online via live broadcast: Akerke Abzhanovna Alkhabek, a first-year student at the University of Warsaw (Poland), and Aldiyar Dzhusupov, a student at the University of Messina (Italy). They shared in Kazakh and English their experiences of learning foreign languages, applying to and studying at European universities, and emphasized that to contribute to the development of our country, one must first obtain a quality education, which requires diligence and constant pursuit of knowledge. The program included performances in Kazakh, English, and Chinese: Zhanel Zhaxylyk, a 1st-year student majoring in Mechanics, recited Mukagali Makatayev’s poem “My Three Happinesses.” Dinmukhamed Ablek, a student majoring in Computational Science and Statistics, shared his heartfelt thoughts about language in English.
