KazNU strengthens the potential of national science
The International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern methods and technologies of analysis, assessment and forecasting of water resources" has started at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event marked the 90th anniversary of the famous scientist, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Saken Dauletgaliev.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, Member of the Board of KazNU – Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Alina Galeeva welcomed the participants and representatives of leading scientific schools and organizations, noting the significance of the event.
"Today's conference is taking place during the period of active digitalization of science and education. In his Address to the People of Kazakhstan 2025, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that digitalization and artificial intelligence should become the main drivers of modernization of science, education and public administration. Following this strategic course, KazNU is actively implementing digital technologies in scientific research, expanding international cooperation and strengthening the potential of domestic science.
I am sure that this conference will become an important platform for sharing experiences, presenting the latest achievements and strengthening scientific ties between researchers from Kazakhstan and other countries",- said the Vice–rector.
Aliya Aktimbayeva, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, stressed that the conference was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Professor Saken Dauletgaliev, a renowned scientist who made a significant contribution to the development of scientific research in the field of effective water resources management and the training of highly qualified specialists. She noted that the professor's scientific school unites several generations of researchers working to ensure the country's water security.
The conference was attended by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, twice winner of the State Prize in Science and Technology, Chairman of the Board of JSC Institute of Geography and Water Safety Akhmetkal Rakhmetollauly Medeu, First Deputy Director General of RSE Kazhydromet, Adviser to the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Meteorological Organization on Hydrology Serik Sairov, Associate Professor of the Russian Vitaly Khaustov, State Hydrometeorological University, Academician of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences Igor Malkovsky and other famous scientists. They presented reports on the scientific legacy of Professor S. Dauletgaliev.
The conference continued in three sections: "Modern methods of assessment and forecasting of water resources", "Digital hydrology: from GIS to machine learning", "Changes and transformation of the natural environment in conditions of climatic instability".
At the final plenary session, the authors of the best reports and poster presentations were awarded.
On the second day of the conference, guests will be given a tour of the KazNU campus, during which they will visit the al-Farabi Museum, the Farabi Hub innovation site, the cluster of engineering and high technologies, the Kazakh-Chinese joint Laboratory "Remote Sensing Technologies and their Applications", as well as ten new innovative laboratories of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management.
