An expanded meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council was held at al-Farabi Kazakh National University to discuss issues related to the development of scientific infrastructure, improving research efficiency and expanding international cooperation. Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Margulan Ibraimov presented the priority areas for improving the university's research ecosystem.

Amirkhan Temirbayev, Director of the Farabi Supercomputer Center, spoke about the development of the supercomputer infrastructure and focused on the possibilities of using the most powerful supercomputer in Central Asia with a capacity of 2000 TFLOPS. This system is designed for the development of artificial intelligence, climate modeling, medicine, engineering calculations and other strategic projects.

During the meeting, it was proposed to widely use the power of the supercomputer in current and new projects, to include it in grant applications and to conduct informational seminars for researchers.

Kuanysh Tastambek, Director of the Department of Science and Innovation, presented updated criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of researchers. These are such indicators as publications in international publications, citation growth, participation in grant projects, patenting and doctoral training. In addition, it was suggested that joint projects and grant programs should be taken into account.

In recent years, the university's participation in international grant programs has increased significantly: 130 in 2021, 189 in 2022, 211 in 2023, and 193 in 2024. Of these, 35% are implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, 65% are implemented jointly with leading universities and research centers in China, Korea, Russia and France.

In accordance with the development plan, KazNU is strengthening its participation in the commercialization of scientific research, attracting investments and international scientific and educational initiatives.

Following the meeting, decisions were made on the widespread use of the supercomputer in scientific research and grant applications, holding seminars and developing international partnerships.
