Info Tour to ICBC “Khorgos”: Strengthening International Cooperation and Developing Tourism Potential

On October 16, the lecturers (Baiburiyev R.M.) and 2nd year doctoral students (Zhalau Y., Omar M.) of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, took part in an information tour to the International Center for Border Cooperation “Khorgos” (ICBC), organized by the Tourist Information Center “Visit Zhetysu”.

The info tour aimed to strengthen professional and international relations in the field of tourism, which is highly relevant in the context of developing cross-border cooperation and promoting Kazakhstan’s tourism potential. The event gathered representatives of tourism companies from the Zhetysu region and the city of Almaty, bloggers, journalists, representatives of the Altyn-Emel National Park, and various media outlets.

During the trip, participants familiarized themselves with the infrastructure and activities of ICBC “Khorgos”, visited the region’s tourist attractions, the Chinese Medicine Center, and several educational and cultural sites located in Khorgos. They also took part in discussions with representatives of the tourism sector of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) to explore prospects for joint cooperation.

The trip proved to be very informative and beneficial: participants gained new knowledge, exchanged experiences, and established professional contacts that contribute to the academic and practical development of the department. The high level of organization, the hospitality of the hosts, and the importance of such initiatives in strengthening tourism cooperation between Kazakhstan and China were especially noted.
