Today we celebrate a special occasion — Apple Tree Day, the symbol of Kazakhstan’s natural heritage.
The Sievers apple is the ancestor of all cultivated apple varieties in the world. The history of the modern apple began with this ancient wild species growing on the slopes of the Tian Shan and Dzungarian Alatau mountains.
The Sievers apple (Malus sieversii) is an endemic species listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. It is highly resilient to climatic conditions and possesses a unique genetic potential, which is why it is known as the “foremother of all apples.” Scientists and ecologists call it the “living genetic treasure” of Eurasia.
The celebration of Apple Tree Day aims to:
- preserve and restore the natural habitats of wild apple trees;
- promote scientific knowledge about their origin and importance;
- develop ecological and educational tourism in Kazakhstan;
- foster care and respect for nature among the younger generation.
Today, across the country, educational and environmental events, photo exhibitions, apple tree planting activities, and thematic lectures are being held to support the preservation of unique natural ecosystems.
May this day remind us of the richness and beauty of our nature and the importance of protecting it.
To protect the apple tree is to preserve the roots of life and the cultural heritage of Kazakhstan !
