The "Month of the Arabic Language" has begun in KazNU

A solemn meeting of the international cultural and educational project "Month of the Arabic Language" was held at the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. It was attended by employees of ministries of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of the diplomatic corps of Arab countries, as well as Arabic language specialists and students.

The event, organized for the first time in Kazakhstan, is being implemented with the support of the King Salman International Academy of Arabic of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in partnership with KazNU and L.Gumilev ENU.

Yerkin Duissenov, First Vice–Rector and Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazNU, spoke at the solemn meeting, noting the importance of cooperation between the two countries. In his speech, he said: "Cultural and educational ties between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia are strengthening every year. We are ready to further expand cooperation based on our common historical and spiritual values. Thanks to joint cultural events, there is a great opportunity to strengthen friendship and trust between the two countries".

Dr. Abdullah Al-Vashmi, Secretary General of the King Salman International Academy of Arabic, emphasized that this event opened up new opportunities for the broad development of the Arabic language and culture in Kazakhstan.

"Our friendly relations with Kazakhstan are strengthening day by day. The memorandum of cooperation signed last year with al-Farabi Kazakh National University gave a new impetus to bilateral cooperation.  Our experts and scientists work closely with colleagues from Kazakhstan and achieve significant success in learning and teaching Arabic. We highly appreciate the rich culture and hospitality of the Kazakh people. We invite students to study Arabic in depth using the programs of our academy",- said Dr. Abdullah al-Vashmi.

Then the audience watched a video about KazNU and the International Academy of the Arabic Language, got acquainted with the best projects and achievements.

During the event within the framework of the "Month of the Arabic Language" at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU, the winners of competitions with the participation of students of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan were awarded. The students participated in the competitions "Arabic Calligraphy", "Expressive reading of Arabic poetry" and "Arabic Storytelling".

After the ceremony, the event continued with a scientific forum, which brought together leading Kazakhstani and foreign arabologists.  In addition, the four-week project includes trainings and workshops for teachers and students, as well as an exhibition of Arabic calligraphy and cultural heritage.

According to the organizers, this project is consistent with the wording of the message of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the people of Kazakhstan in 2025 on the recognition of education and science as the main foundation of the country's development. In addition, the "Month of the Arabic Language" corresponds to the 4th direction of the UN Sustainable Development Goals "Quality Education" and the 17th direction "Partnership for Sustainable Development".

It is worth noting that the King Salman International Arabic Language Academy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was founded in 2020. Previously, such projects were successfully implemented in Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Spain, Italy, China and other countries.
