“Welcome to Atameken!” – A Celebration that Elevated the Spirit of the Nation

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University once again proved that it is not only a center of science and education but also a true guardian of spirituality, culture, and national traditions. The Faculty of Pre-University Education, together with the Department of Pre-University Training, hosted the traditional festive event “Welcome to Atameken!”, dedicated to the Republic Day. The celebration was held at a high level and became a genuine festival of patriotism and unity.

The main goal of the event was to nurture in young people a deep sense of love for their homeland and native land, to foster civic responsibility, respect for national values, and a strong spirit of unity. This evening became a symbol of continuity between generations and a spiritual lesson awakening pride for an independent Kazakhstan.The ceremony opened with a welcoming speech by Dean of the Faculty of Pre-University Education Almas Äuelbekuly Bektanov. In his address, he warmly congratulated everyone on Republic Day, emphasizing that the country’s future depends on knowledge, hard work, and the active civic position of young people. Almas Äuelbekuly wished the students success in their studies, new achievements, and the preservation of unity and patriotism.The evening’s honored guests were Maqsat Äbdikadyruly, Chief Physician of the “Maqsat Med” Medical Center, Master of Medical Sciences, and Chairman of the “Kazakh Medical Society,” as well as entrepreneur Sabyrzhan Mukhametkhanuly. In their congratulatory remarks, the guests encouraged students to be diligent, educated, and devoted to their homeland, and on this special occasion, awarded one-time scholarships to 13 students.

The celebration began with the performance of the State Anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which filled the hall with solemnity and patriotic spirit. The first performance, the dance “Arman Mekeni” (“Land of Dreams”), presented by the students, set a bright and inspiring tone for the evening.The concert program featured poems by renowned Kazakh poets – K. Myrzaliev, Zh. Moldagaliyev, M. Makatayev, K. Amanzholov, and M. Shakhanov, dedicated to the themes of homeland and patriotism. The students’ performances of patriotic songs and kyuis (traditional instrumental pieces) revealed the richness and depth of Kazakh national art.The audience responded with heartfelt applause to the song “Kók tudyń zhelbiregeni” (“The Fluttering Blue Flag”), which has become a symbol of patriotism and national pride. The soulful performance of Tolganay Esmaganbet with the song “Ägugai Dombra,” the kyui “Erke Sylkym” by Äbdimomyn Zheldibayev played by the dombra ensemble, and the vibrant folk dance “Qara Zhorga” added special charm to the evening.Equally impressive were the heartfelt poem “Atameken” performed by Buldyrshyn Arkalyk and the modern song “Shape of You” performed by Yerbolat Degdar, symbolizing the harmony between tradition and modernity.At the conclusion of the evening, the talented students of the faculty performed the song “Atameken” as a choir, uniting the entire hall in a shared feeling of pride and love for the Motherland.The celebration ended with touching lines:
“I wish my people a peaceful life,May history see more talents rise,We bow our heads to the spirit of our ancestors.”The festive event “Welcome to Atameken!” became a vivid example of how Al-Farabi Kazakh National University nurtures a generation capable of not only preserving but also enriching the spiritual and cultural heritage of our country.
