In order to strengthen scientific research and improve the quality of scientific publications, al-Farabi Kazakh National University has opened electronic access to scientific journals published by Elsevier through the ScienceDirect platform.

ScienceDirect is one of the largest scientific databases in the world. Thanks to this resource, university scientists will be able to use modern scientific sources in the preparation of research and publications, as well as improve educational and methodological materials.

Now teachers, researchers, doctoral students and students of KazNU have free access to materials from more than 2 500 peer-reviewed journals and 18 million scientific articles. The database covers a wide range of fields – natural sciences, engineering, medical, social sciences, and humanities. In addition, access to ScienceDirect helps to strengthen international cooperation and increase the citation of scientific papers by KazNU researchers.

Over the past five years, university scientists have published 6,524 scientific articles in highly rated journals included in the Scopus database. In 2024, 1,584 articles were published, and in 2025, 1,387 scientific papers were already published. These indicators confirm the growth of the university's scientific potential and its active participation in the global academic space.

According to representatives of KazNU, access to the ScienceDirect platform will increase publication activity, expand international partnership and strengthen the university's scientific status at the global level.

The database is logged in via the KazNU's internal network (by IP addresses) or using a personal account for remote access.
