Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies Hosted Visiting Lecturer from the Azerbaijan University of Languages

From September 15 to October 1, 2025, the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University welcomed Gulnar Naghiyeva, Senior Lecturer from the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL – https://adu.edu.az/), within the framework of  Orhun Academic Exchange Program. This program encourages vibrant academic exchange and collaboration among universities in the Organization of Turkic States, promoting shared growth in education, science, and culture for everyone involved.

The visit was organized and coordinated by the department under the supervision of PhD Malika Aimagambetova, Head of Department. Upon her arrival, Ms. Naghiyeva was introduced to the department’s structure, academic programs, and teaching methodologies. She became acquainted with the university’s approach to translation pedagogy and intercultural communication — key areas in which the department actively develops research and curriculum innovation.

During the visit, the Department organized open classes and teaching observations that encouraged professional exchange. Ms. Naghiyeva participated in “English for Academic Purposes”, led by Gulnaz Iskakova, and “Basic Foreign Language in the Context of Intercultural Communication (C2)” with Yelena Morugova. These sessions inspired discussions on innovative methodologies for multilingual teaching. With faculty support, Ms. Naghiyeva developed lesson plans, delivered sessions, and incorporated interactive activities to enhance students’ academic writing and reading skills.

The Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies views this exchange as an essential step in strengthening academic ties with the Azerbaijan University of Languages. It also aligns with the department’s mission to promote international collaboration and to advance translation and philological studies within the framework of the Turkic academic space.
