Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Scientists Ranked Among the World’s Top 2% Researchers by Stanford University

Scientists from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) have been included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists list for 2025, compiled by Stanford University (USA) in collaboration with Elsevier and the Scopus database.

The ranking covers more than 200,000 researchers across various scientific disciplines and is based on a comprehensive set of bibliometric indicators — including the h-index, number of citations, number of publications, and other metrics that reflect sustained scientific impact and contribution to global research development.

The 2025 list includes scientists from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University:
Alibek Ydyrys, Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology;
Denis Vinnikov, Director of the Laboratory for Health and Environmental Research;
and Hernando Quevedo, international researcher collaborating with KazNU.

The inclusion of KazNU scientists in this prestigious global ranking highlights the university’s high level of research excellence, recognition of its contribution to the advancement of world science, and successful integration into the global academic community.

The researchers featured in the ranking represent diverse scientific schools of the university — ranging from natural and technical sciences to ecology, medicine, social sciences, and the humanities. Their achievements demonstrate KazNU’s strong scientific potential and confirm the effectiveness of its research university development strategy.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists list is updated annually and published on the official Stanford University platform. Based on this ranking, the international network TopSciNet (World’s Top 2% Scientists Network) has been formed, bringing together leading scientists from around the world to promote scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint research initiatives.
