29 october, 2025

On October 29, al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a lecture concert dedicated to exploring and comparing Kazakh and Japanese classical music traditions. The event took place in a warm and inspiring atmosphere of cultural exchange.

During the program, the audience had the opportunity to learn about traditional Japanese musical instruments such as the Tuzumi and Shamisen, and to enjoy performances of Kazakh and Japanese composers‘ works. The concert featured Ahmet Zhubanov’s Aria, Yevgeny Brusilovsky‘s Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu, the Japanese folk song Sakura Sakura arranged by Kazuhiro Miyamura, and Michio Miyagi’s Haru no Umi (The Spring Sea). The Kazakh classic Hello, Kalamkas by Abai also resonated beautifully with the audience.

A live Shamisen performance provided an authentic glimpse into Japanese musical heritage, while the event concluded with a Japanese Tea Ceremony demonstration, allowing guests to experience the essence of harmony, respect, and tranquility.

The concert became a vivid example of the cultural dialogue between Kazakhstan and Japan, strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.
