5 november, 2025

On November 5, 2025, an event titled “Religion and Medicine” was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The initiative was organized within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 3 — “Good Health and Well-being” and No. 4 — “Quality Education”, in collaboration with 3rd-year students majoring in Religious Studies.

The purpose of the event was to explore the points of intersection between religion and medicine, to analyze the relationship between an individual’s religious beliefs and medical decisions, and to develop students’ critical thinking and professional worldview.

During the meeting, participants discussed specific case studies related to refusal of medical assistance for religious reasons and examined the issue of balancing freedom of religion with the human right to life.

As a result of the discussion, students provided ethical and legal assessments of the interaction between religion and medicine, exchanged opinions on relevant issues, and formulated their own positions.

The event was held at a high level: students demonstrated active participation, defended their views with well-founded arguments, and showed great interest in the topic.

Organizers: D.S. Utebayeva, PhD, Senior Lecturer, A.N. Amanzholova, 2nd-year Master’s student in Religious Studies
