The “Aksakals Council” delegation visited the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Rational Nature Management

On November 3, 2025, as part of the campus tour “Aksakals Council,” a delegation visited the Scientific Center for Sustainable Development and Rational Nature Management at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

During the visit, guests were introduced to the work of 10 research laboratories within the center, conducting studies on sustainable use of natural resources, assessment of climate and water resources, prevention of natural hazards, and implementation of sustainable development principles.

The delegation paid special attention to the work of the Kazakhstan-China Center for Remote Sensing of the Earth, where modern satellite data analysis technologies used for environmental monitoring and natural resource management were demonstrated. Guests were also introduced to the research on the dynamics of the Aral Sea, aimed at studying ecosystem degradation processes and assessing the impacts of climate change in the region.

Members of the “Aksakals Council” emphasized the importance of the faculty’s scientific initiatives aimed at solving pressing environmental challenges and noted that the university elders play a key role in preserving academic traditions, mentoring young researchers, and strengthening the moral and spiritual values of the university. Their active involvement contributes to intergenerational continuity, enhancement of scientific potential, and the development of a strong corporate culture within the university.
