“Reducing Inequality: the role of youth in building a fair and inclusive society”
On November 11, 2025, Ms. M.S. Ongarbayeva, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies, Faculty of Philology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, conducted an educational and awareness-raising event in Dormitory No. 17 dedicated to the topic “Reducing Inequality”, held within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal No. 10 (SDG 10).
The event was organized jointly with first-year students majoring in “6B02303 – Foreign Philology (Western Languages)” and “6B02305 – Kazakh Philology.”
The main goal of the meeting was to foster among students an understanding of social justice, equal opportunities, and personal responsibility in building an inclusive society where every individual has the right to a decent life and development.
During the discussion, participants became acquainted with the key objectives of SDG 10, including:
reducing social and economic inequality within and among countries;
ensuring equal access to education, employment, and healthcare;
supporting vulnerable groups of the population, including persons with disabilities, migrants, and low-income citizens;
promoting the principles of inclusion, tolerance, and social cohesion.
The students actively participated in the discussion, sharing their views on various forms of inequality in modern society and suggesting their own solutions — such as involvement in volunteer and charitable projects, and the creation of social initiatives aimed at supporting youth and promoting the idea of equality.
During the event, students Ongarbay P.Zh. and Oral A.B. prepared a presentation, while Sovetkhan D.E. demonstrated a video dedicated to SDG 10, focusing on the state policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan aimed at implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.
The event took place in an atmosphere of open dialogue and active engagement.
In conclusion, the students noted that reducing inequality is not only the responsibility of the state but also a personal duty of every citizen, since it is the youth who play a key role in shaping a fair, inclusive, and sustainable future.
