Youth Activism and the Aral Sea

The Faculty of Physics and Technology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a curatorial session titled “Youth Activism and the Aral Sea”, dedicated to environmental awareness and youth involvement in sustainable development.

The session featured Zh. Khaibullina, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development, D. Urzhanova, Manager of the Center, and students from AlmaU – Aiyim Mynbai, Nadiya Satulganova, and Ilana Zhankayeva, who shared their experiences in environmental projects, tree-planting initiatives on the former Aral seabed, and the volunteer activities of SDG Legion AlmaU.

Students of the Faculty of Physics and Technology showed great interest, asked questions, and discussed the importance of youth activism in solving ecological challenges. The participants agreed to continue cooperation and joint activities in environmental and sustainable development initiatives.

The event was closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation;
SDG 13 – Climate Action;
SDG 14 – Life Below Water;
SDG 15 – Life on Land;
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

The session was organized by Z.K. Shortanbayeva, Deputy Head of the Department of Thermophysics and Technical Physics, and G.K. Taimanova, Senior Lecturer.
