October 25 – Republic Day of Kazakhstan

23 october, 2025

On October 23, on the eve of the national holiday – Republic Day of Kazakhstan – a cultural and educational event titled “October 25 – Republic Day of Kazakhstan” was held for international student groups of the Department of Language and General Educational Training for Foreigners, Faculty of Pre-University Education, at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Group curators K.S. Yakubaeva and M.P. Yeshimov introduced students from China and Japan to the history of this important holiday. The students learned that Republic Day is the first official holiday of independent Kazakhstan. It is celebrated on October 25 and symbolizes the country's first step toward independence, made back in 1990. The curators explained that on October 25, 1990, the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Kazakhstan was adopted. This key document proclaimed the supremacy of national laws over union laws and confirmed the republic’s right to independently determine its internal and foreign policies.

Students also found it interesting that in honor of Republic Day, concerts, scientific conferences, creative contests, sports competitions, patriotic, volunteer, and charity events are held across different regions of Kazakhstan. In Almaty, celebrations include festive concerts, flash mobs, fairs, ecological campaigns, children’s entertainment programs, various sports competitions, and a mini-marathon in Nordic walking.

Teachers encouraged international students to attend these festive events in Almaty to learn more about the history and culture of Kazakhstan.
