The "Ualikhan readings" were held in the branch of KazNU in Omsk
A major international scientific and practical conference "Valikhan Readings" was held at the branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Omsk on the initiative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh scientist, historian, ethnographer, traveler and diplomat Shokan Ualikhanov.
The forum brought together renowned researchers from Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China and other countries, as well as representatives of government authorities, diplomatic structures, the expert community and public organizations.
The main objective of the conference was a deep understanding of the scientific heritage of S.Ualikhanov, his role in the study of the history and cultural heritage of Central Asia, as well as the development of international cooperation in the scientific and humanitarian fields.
On the first day, the participants visited the Omsk State Regional Scientific Library named after A. Pushkin, where they were presented with a collection of rare publications dating back to the era of Ulikhanov. Among the exhibits are books similar to those used by the scientist himself. The specialists also demonstrated unique archival documents from the library's collections.
Leading historians and orientalists from scientific institutes of Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as a professor from Peking University (China), spoke at the plenary session. At the end of the plenary session, the winners of the international essay contest for schoolchildren of Kazakhstan and Russia on the topic "Chokan Ualikhanov: the connection of epochs and generations" were awarded.
Within the framework of the conference at the branch of KazNU, operating on the basis of Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky There were scientific sections covering a wide range of topics: the analysis of Ualikhanov's works, his expeditions and secret mission to Kashgar, issues of historical memory, intercultural interaction and modern geopolitical processes in Central Asia.
Of particular importance is the fact that the branch of al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Omsk was officially opened on November 27, 2024 with the participation of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. This is the first branch of the Kazakh university established in Russia. It provides young people with the opportunity to study in modern, sought-after educational programs. The branch trains specialists in the fields of "International Law", "Philology", "Customs" and "Kazakh language and Literature".
