"THE FUTURE OF ZERO-WASTE TECHNOLOGIES"
On November 25, 2025, the Department of Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a roundtable discussion on the topical issue of "Zero-Waste Production Technologies: Organic Waste Recycling with the Black Soldier Fly" in the context of SDG 15 – Conserve terrestrial ecosystems. The goal of the roundtable was to discuss the development and implementation of an innovative, environmentally friendly technology for recycling organic food waste using Hermetia illucens larvae. This technology is aimed at creating a closed biological cycle, minimizing waste, and creating secondary resources (protein, fertilizers), thereby bringing society closer to a future of zero-waste production and sustainable development. It was concluded that the combination of nature and technology is the key to sustainable development.
Participants in the event, senior lecturers of the Department of Biotechnology: N.S. Mamytova, K.A. Mukhataeva, and G.D. Ultanbekova. Fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in Biotechnology (English group) and first-year master's students majoring in Biotechnology.
