Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture

29 november, 2025

On November 29, 2025, professors Aida Turebekovna Zhusanbaeva and Ainash Ilyasovna Akhmetzhanova from the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, along with first- and second-year students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, and the Faculty of Innovative Technologies, visited the Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture.

During the tour, students listened to a fascinating lecture by the tour guide, who introduced them to the history of the building—the former Tselinny cinema, one of the most significant architectural landmarks of the Soviet period. Participants learned about its cultural past, reconstruction, and transformation into a modern art space, where exhibitions, discussions, and educational events are held today.

Of particular interest was the story of the history of Mount Barsakelmes, a unique natural and historical site associated with legends, scientific research, and environmental initiatives. Students learned about the natural features of the region, its past, and its current significance for Kazakhstan.

Visiting the Tselinny Center for Contemporary Culture contributes to the implementation of SDG 4, “Quality Education,” as it develops cultural literacy, broadens horizons, and promotes analytical thinking.

In addition, student participation in the cultural life of the city reflects the objectives of SDG 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage and developing modern public spaces.

The students noted that the excursion gave them a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan's cultural and historical processes and inspired them to further study contemporary culture and art.
