THE EDUCATIONAL AND PRACTICAL NEWSPAPER «JOURNALIST» – SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE FOR STUDENTS

SDG-4 As the outstanding figure of Alash, Alikhan Bokeikhanov, wrote: «A newspaper is a mirror of life; by reading a newspaper, people see themselves». The press is a spiritual mentor that enriches our essence. First-year students of the Printing and Electronic Mass Media Department of the Journalism Faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, as part of the History of Kazakh Journalism course, released new issues of the educational and practical newspaper «Journalist» for the 2025–2026 academic year: № 1 (18). (Group 101); № 2 (19). (Group 102); № 3 (20), (Group 103); № 4 (21). (Group 104); № 5 (22). (Group 105); № 6 (23). (Group 106).

During the lecture, the students first explored the personalities behind the Kazakh periodical press and delved into the history of several publications that occupy a significant place in modern journalism. As a result, while publishing their own newspaper, they realized that writing articles and running a newspaper is no easy task.

Rimma Serikalievna Zhaksylykbaeva, editor-in-chief of the educational and practical newspaper «Journalist», research associate professor, and candidate of philological sciences, when giving assignments to each student (145 students in total), paid special attention to the quality of their writing – articles, interviews, stories, poetry, essays, and other genres. The students themselves, acting as editors and designers, acquired newspaper production skills and gained considerable experience. As writer and Alash activist Mirzhakyp Dulatov once wrote: «The newspaper is the pulse of the people. The newspaper must be a critic, revealing the ills of society». The educational and practical newspaper «Journalist» will undoubtedly contribute to the further professional development of many future journalists.
