International scientific exchange of experience is expanding
An academic meeting with a delegation from the Xi'an University of Science and Technology (PRC) was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The visit of leading scientists from China was an important step in the implementation of KazNU's strategy to transform into a world-class research university and strengthen international cooperation in the field of breakthrough innovations.
The event was attended by Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board, Vice–Rector for Science and Innovation, Kuanysh Tastambek, Director of the Department of Science and Innovation, as well as heads of specialized centers. The foreign side was represented by Zhang Taowei, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Xiao Yang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Professor Liu Xiangrong and other leading experts.
The foundation for fruitful cooperation was laid during the visit of the KazNU delegation to Urumqi.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the effectiveness of the partnership. During the period 2024-25, scientists from the two countries published 7 joint articles in the reputable international databases Scopus and Web of Science. The research focuses on the most pressing issues of ecology and energy: microbiological degradation of low-grade coals, environmentally friendly waste recycling, and the concept of co-burning microalgae with coal residues (co-firing).
The meeting participants noted that the cooperation between the universities of the two countries contributes to the implementation of the principle of "waste into resources", offering practical solutions for applied ecology.
The parties confirmed their intention to expand the academic exchange program and launch new interdisciplinary projects that contribute to the integration of Kazakh science into the global space.
