24 october, 2025

On October 23, 2025, an autumn agricultural fair was held on the territory of Al-Farabi KazNU, organized with the aim of supporting domestic farmers and promoting environmentally friendly agricultural products. Farmers from the Almaty region who grow fruits and vegetables in the fields and greenhouses of the university's agrobiological station located near the Kapchagai Reservoir presented their products. The fair's assortment included fresh vegetables and fruits from the new harvest - potatoes, carrots, cabbage, pumpkin, tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, and apples, as well as honey, grain crops, and processed products. Students, teachers, and university staff had the opportunity to purchase quality products directly from producers.

Within the framework of SDG 2 -  Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, and Promoting Sustainable Agriculture, and with the aim of increasing the environmental sustainability of agricultural production and introducing modern agricultural technologies, a mini-seminar was held for farmers and agricultural suppliers on the topic: “Plant protection methods: the use of biological products to control pests.”

During the event, participants learned about the main pests affecting agricultural crops, modern approaches to plant protection, and the advantages of using biological products. Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of using biological products, their effectiveness, safety for the environment and humans, as well as reducing the chemical load on soil and produce.

The seminar attracted great interest among farmers, as biological plant protection methods are becoming an important part of sustainable and competitive agriculture. At the end of the event, participants received answers to their questions and practical recommendations on the introduction of biological protection products in their farms.

Holding the autumn agricultural fair at the university helped strengthen the university's cooperation with representatives of the agricultural sector and sparked students' interest in sustainable agriculture and supporting local producers. The mini-seminar demonstrated the high relevance of the topic of biological plant protection and the use of biological products in modern agriculture and contributed to the exchange of experience between specialists in the agricultural sector and the formation of interest in the introduction of integrated plant protection systems aimed at increasing yields, improving the quality of agricultural products, and preserving the environment.
