“Tańǵy Studio” on Almaty TV Channel: Aliya Baktygereeva on the Impact of Fake News on Society
SDG-4 Aliya Baktygereeva, a PhD doctoral student at the Faculty of Journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, appeared on the “Tańǵy Studio” program broadcast on the Almaty TV channel. During the program, the hosts Zhan Baizhanbayev and Darya Aleksandrova discussed the issue of the impact of fake news on society.
Speaking about the reasons behind the widespread dissemination of false information and disinformation in today’s media environment, Aliya Baktygereeva emphasized that social media and instant access to information have significantly contributed to the spread of fake news. According to her, the rapid circulation of false content poses a serious threat to public awareness and trust in information.
“Fake news often spreads faster than verified information due to its strong emotional appeal,” the doctoral student noted.
She also highlighted the important role of the Center for Countering Disinformation operating within the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in ensuring citizens’ right to access reliable and accurate information.
In addition to identifying fake news, the Center contributes to the development of critical thinking skills among the public. It conducts regular reviews of disinformation, analyzes manipulation cases, and provides expert commentary on high-profile information topics.
