Winning young engineers

26 january, 2026

The VI international student Olympiad in mechanics and mechanical science (SIOMMS-2025) was held at Satbayev University, where young engineers gathered in Almaty. This important scientific and educational event brought together students of technical specialties engaged in solving problems in the fields of kinematics, dynamics, mechanism design and robotics. The Olympiad is held every two years and was previously organized in Izhevsk (Russia), Shanghai (China), Madrid (Spain) and the Papal Academy of Sciences.

The grand opening of the Olympiad was held with the participation of leading specialists in the field of machine science and robotics. Among them were Doctor of technical sciences, professor, vice-president of the National Academy of engineering of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Tuleshov, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of Izhevsk State Technical University E. Krylov, as well as vice-rector of Satbayev University S. Shalabayev and other guests. The speakers noted the importance of international competitions in the field of engineering education, noting that such Olympiads allow students to exchange experience, demonstrate their level of knowledge and get acquainted with current trends in this area.

The participants were offered eight tasks of a theoretical and practical nature for the analysis and synthesis of mechanisms. They were given four hours to perform. Each student completed the tasks individually. The team result was calculated by the sum of the points of the individual participants.

Teams from China, Spain, Romania, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan took part in the Olympics. Kazakhstan was represented by Al-Farabi kaznu, Satbayev University, M. Auezov educational and U. Zholdasbekov Institute of mechanics and mechanical science. According to the organizers, SIOMMS-2025 was one of the most large-scale Olympiads in recent years.

The team of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took the 3rd place in the competition. As part of the team, students of the specialties "mechanics" and "robotic systems" Elzhas Esen, Nurai Zhakai and Diyar Baktybayev competed.

The Institute of mechanics and mechanical science (Immash) was represented by Amandyk Botay, Ramazan Nalibek and Oleg Kirillov.

Students were prepared by teachers of the Department of mechanics of the Faculty of mechanics and mathematics of Al-Farabi kaznu B. Espaev, E. Savelyev and E. Temirbekov. The participants noted that their professional support and leadership played a huge role.

In addition to the competition, the participants were given a tour of the laboratories of Satbayev University, where students got acquainted with modern equipment and scientific projects. After the results of the competition, the guests had the opportunity to visit the Chimbulak Mountain Complex and get acquainted with the beautiful nature and culture of Kazakhstan.

The organizing committee announced that the next Olympiad will be held in China, at the Weihai branch of Shandong University. In the near future, the official website of the event will be launched, where information about the program, conditions of participation and registration will be published.

SIOMMS-2025 remains an important platform aimed at strengthening international cooperation and increasing the level of engineering education. The participation of Kazakhstani students clearly showed that there is a great potential for the future of Engineering in the country.

We express our special gratitude to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for the material support of the team and full financing of the organizational fee for the Olympiad. Such support from the university allowed young engineers to improve their knowledge at the international level.

We sincerely congratulate our talented students who showed the best results in the competition. Congratulations on the victory and the fruits of Labor!
